Titania 2017 - 2018

Ms Jones

Which adults are working in Titania?

The main members of staff are- Myself (Ms R Jones) and Mrs Payne. My PPA (planning, preparation and assessment) time takes place on a Tuesday afternoon each week. During this time, the children will go swimming. On a Monday afternoon, Mrs Gill will teach the children Religious Education and PSHE.

Important information

Reading is an important focus throughout school. We are running several initiatives to increase pupils' engagement with reading, such as inviting in 'Secret Readers' and conducting visits to Blacon Library.

Please can you ensure your child brings in their reading book everyday. This way they can take part in our afternoon reading sessions that take place everyday. In Titania we change our reading books on a Monday and Thursday only (even if they have finished the book). This allows them to become increasingly fluent readers and deepens their understanding around the text. I would like to thank you for supporting and encouraging your child to read at home- the majority of children are reading every night which is incredible. Not only does regular reading enable children to become increasingly fluent readers, but it also supports their spelling, grammar and range of vocabulary. Understanding the story and actions or feelings of the character is a vital skill to develop in year 5; asking your child a few questions based on what they have just read helps to develop this skill. Additionally, Mrs. Payne will ask for your child to complete a simple task related to their reading, such as find an interesting new word, or to write about the text. These tasks are also aimed at increasing depth of understanding and expanding vocabulary.

Homework will be sent out every Friday and will need to back in for the following Wednesday. Your child will receive one piece of literacy homework which will be spelling focused, and one piece of maths homework which will be times tables based. (See maths and literacy pages for useful links.)

Swimming lessons have begun at Total Fitness, and the children are progressing well. Please ensure that children bring their swimming kits in on Tuesdays (including towel, swimming cap and goggles)

Dates for the diary

This half term is a short one, but we will be packing lots of activities in! Our first date is Thursday 1st February when we will be taking the class to visit Blacon Library and encouraging as many as possible to become members. Look out for the permission letters so that all children can participate.

The second part of this term is busier, with Parents' evenings on 7th and 8th March.

Week commencing 12th March is Science Week, during which Titania will be studying 'Forces' and the influence of Isaac Newton.

March ends on a high note, with the ever-popular World Book Day on 31st March.

Don’t forget…

Those children who have read at least 4 times a week, completed their homework and have brought their PE kit in, will receive raffle tickets each week.

Please take a look at our other pages for more information about our learning! smiley
