Welcome to the Autumn Term! This promises to be a fun-filled term for the children with our exciting Anglo - Saxon and Viking history, Space science lessons and lots of creative art!

Which adults are working in Titania?

The main members of staff are- Myself (Miss Suleman), Mrs Bragg and Miss Macintosh. My PPA (planning, preparation and assessment) time takes place on a Monday afternoon each week. During this time, the children will be having a fantastic time with Mrs C Latimer - producing some outstanding art work.

Important information

Reading is an important focus throughout school. We are running several initiatives to increase pupils' engagement with reading, conducting visits to Blacon Library and the reading challenge.

Please can you ensure your child brings in their reading book everyday. This way they can take part in our afternoon reading sessions that take place everyday. In Titania we change our reading books on a Tuesday and Thursday only (even if they have finished the book). This allows them to become increasingly fluent readers and deepens their understanding around the text.

Not only does regular reading enable children to become increasingly fluent readers, but it also supports their spelling, grammar and range of vocabulary. Understanding the story and actions or feelings of the character is a vital skill to develop in year 5; asking your child a few questions based on what they have just read helps to develop this skill. As part of the Titania reading challenge children will be asked to produce a book review after they finish their book. These result in prizes at intervals of 15 books - certificates, books, lucky dips and a fiesta!

Homework will be sent out every Friday and will need to back in for the following Wednesday. Your child will receive one piece of literacy homework, and one piece of maths homework which will be times tables based. (See maths and literacy pages for useful links.)

Our PE sessions are on Tuesday with a focus on team building and dodgeball. Please ensure children have the correct kit in school all week.

Don’t forget…

Those children who have read at least 4 times a week, completed their homework and have brought their PE kit in, will receive raffle tickets each week.

Please take a look at our other pages for more information about our learning! smiley
