Here you will be able to find infiormation regarding the current reading schemes and delivery of the reading curriculum within our school.

The children take part in Reading sessions for 40 minutes daily from Reception to Year Six. Within EYFS these sessions follow a synthetic phonics programme - Read, Write, Inc. Once the children have mastered Phase 5 phonics, they take part in Shared and Guided Reading Sessions. These sessions develop children's comprehension skills as well as promoting enjoyment of reading in general.

The school currently uses a range of reading schemes (Project X, Songbirds, Read Write Inc, Big Cat Collins, Rigby Navigator etc.) alongside high quality picture books to ensure that children are given the opportunity to read a wide variety of genres. In Key Stage 2 novels or extracts from novels are also used. In addition, each class have a series of authors they will read together throughout the year.

Witihn Key Stage 1, each class are following Letters and Sounds to help support our planning, teaching and assessment of children's phonic knowledge. Our phonics sessions last half an hour and we also use Phonics Play to help make the lessons interactive. Please download the Letters and Sounds handbook for any more information regarding the scheme.
