The children have started our Maths lessons by learning about sequencing and ordering familiar events such as our school day. Throughout the term, the children will be thinking about numbers that are important to them such as birthdays, days of the week and months of the year. We will be focusing on counting skills and will provide opportunities to count objects or actions in the children’s play.

There are many ways you can help develop your child’s number skills at home such as looking at numerals you see around the environment and when you are out and about, for example looking at a bus timetable or price labels when shopping. You can also challenge your child further by counting groups of objects such as trains and cars in a toy box or chips and beans on a plate. We will also be learning about shapes in our environment, so please encourage your child to spot the shapes they see around them.
