English - Autumn

To begin our year, we will be exploring the text...

This beautifully descriptive story follows the journey of a young explorer who travels across the world's rivers, seas and oceans and comes across many wonderous sights. There will be some key skills that we will be developing through this unit such as:

Nouns and adjectives - creating noun phrases to help describe (colourful parrots, rough oceans, gentle, flowing river)

use of the suffix est - this will help create comparisons in our descriptions (She looked up to survey the tallest trees she had ever seen)

using the conjuntion and to join two sentences together

capital letters and full stops  to demarcate the start and end of a sentence

These key skills will be built upon weekly until we are then ready to plan and write our very own circular story.

Handwriting is a big focus for us this year, so if you would like to support your child at home with this, then please ask and we can provide you with some handwriting practise sheets.
