Attendance and Punctuality Expectations

Dee Point Attendance Policy and Expectations:

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all families back to Dee Point and a special welcome to all of our new Nursery and Reception families. I hope you have all had a wonderful summer.

I would like to use this opportunity to refresh and remind all parents of Dee Point’s attendance and punctuality expectations. The school website is currently being updated so please bear with us on this.

Understandably, there have been many challenges faced last year surrounding covid but I am happy to see new guidance supporting children attending school without serious disruption once again. With that, I would like to remind you of the key information around school attendance.

Attendance:

It is a parent’s legal responsibility to have their child(ren) of compulsory school age attend school regularly and on time.

All pupils to attend school as much as possible with exceptions to serious illness.

Dee Point has a high expectation of all pupils to achieve a minimum of 95% attendance to enable children to maximise their educational attainments and opportunities.

If your child is absent from school, a telephone call is expected on the morning of each day of absence. Calls are to the Attendance Manager, Mrs Natalie Griffiths before 9am. 01244 372631 (option 1)

All holidays are encouraged outside of term time. Any holidays taken during term time will be unauthorised and may result in a fixed penalty notice per parent, per child. Holiday forms can be collected from the front office and once completed, please return them to Mrs Griffiths.

All non-urgent medical appointments are encouraged outside of school hours. However, please provide copies of any hospital appointments for your child if these are during school hours.

Covid:

If your child has any positive covid tests, they must remain at home for 72 hours from their testing date in order to help stop the spread to their classmates, school staff and families.

Please call and report their absence to Mrs Griffiths.

Diarrhoea & Vomiting (D&V):

If your child has any episodes of vomiting and/or diarrhoea, they must remain at home for 48 hours from their last episode in order to help stop the spread to their classmates, school staff and families. This applies to any amount, even if it is just one episode.

Please call and report their absence to Mrs Griffiths.

Punctuality:

All Reception to Year 4 pupils must be in school every day by 9am, ready for learning. If you arrive after 9am, the school gates will be closed and you will be asked to come through the main entrance to receive a Late mark and for the office to arrange your child’s lunch for that day.

All year 5 and 6 pupils must be in school every day by 8.30am, ready for learning. If pupils arrive to their classroom after 8.30am, they will receive a Late mark.

All pupils are expected to leave at their designated finishing time and not any earlier. A polite reminder that any pupils leaving early, outside of emergency medical appointments, will receive unauthorised absences and school will follow up with further action.

As always, I thank you all for your continued support and please do not hesitate, if you feel you have any concerns surrounding attendance and/or punctuality, to contact Mrs Griffiths to discuss further.
