Saturn 2017 - 2018

Miss Carter

Welcome back to Saturn Class!

We have four members of staff working in Nursery which means your children are getting lots of attention and lots of support with their learning. Miss Carter is the class teacher and Mrs Jones, Mrs Hesketh and Mr Jones are the teaching assistants. We are happy to welcome the new children into our class and watch their confidence grow each day. We are delighted with the progress the older Nursery children have made since September.

Thank you for supporting your child with homework and reading each week. We love to see how proud they are when they show us their homework or tell us about the book they have read. We also love hearing the exciting things your child did at the weekend. Take your child to new places and give them as many different experiences as possible as this is developing their understanding of the world.

In Nursery there are seven main areas of learning which are communication and language, physical development, social & emotional development, literacy, maths, understanding the world and art & design. Children will continually develop their language and communication through our small group sessions and through communicating with their friends at Nursery. Your children will develop in all of the learning areas at Nursery through their own play and exploration indoors and outdoors, and through our adult led activities. Every day brings a new exciting adventure for your child. We choose topics your children are interested in and choose stories, nursery rhymes, songs and activities we know they will enjoy.

Our topic this term is Traditional Tales. We are currently looking at the Three Little Pigs. Your children will learn to retell the story and act it out. They will learn about strong and weak materials and they will make their own houses out or straw, sticks and bricks. They are learning to answer who, what, when, where, how and why questions about different stories. In Maths they are learning to represent numbers in different ways such as with their fingers, objects, Numicon, claps, jumps, drawing marks and with the numeral. We are also learning to name and describe different shapes. In Phonics we are looking at words that rhyme and words that begin with the same letter. In P.E. we are learning how to stay healthy with exercise, a balanced diet and by staying clean.

If you have not already please can you provide a bag of spare clothes to be kept on your child’s peg and a pair of P.E. shorts to put in the shorts box. These need to be kept in school at all times. Please make sure each item is named. We try our best but sometimes items get lost so naming everything your child wears and brings to school really helps!

Please do not hesitate to talk to a member of the Nursery team if you have any questions or worries! Thank you for your continued support!
