Morning Routines

Each morning the children come into class, hang up coats/ PE kits and complete their ‘Morning Thinking Challenge’ between 8:40AM- 8:55AM. The children will find their name and attempt the Maths or Writing challenge for that day. You are invited to spend this time with your child to complete the activity. We will sit down for the register at 8.55am, so that we are ready for the day ahead.

We love seeing how engaged the children are in the mornings with their ‘Morning Thinking Challenge.’ This is an ideal opportunity for you to speak to the teaching staff and pass on any messages about your child. The doors open at 8.40 and our challenge time is until 8.55 when we sit down on the carpet for the register at 8.55am, so that we are ready for the day.

We love seeing the children so excited to change their ‘sharing book’ each Monday and Thursday. A big thank-you for your commitment and enthusiasm at home. This special time with you will support their love of reading and stories and help develop their language as well as their imagination.

Some children are also bringing home a book to read to you. This will support and extend their learning in school. In our phonics sessions, we read ‘green words’ which are those which can be sounded out e.g. ‘g-e-t’ and ‘f-l-a-g’. We also teach ‘red words’ or ‘tricky words’ which cannot be sounded out. These include no, go and the. We will send home sheets with the high frequency words on to practise reading at home.

Children that read at least 5 times a week receive an extra reward on a Friday afternoon!

Please ensure you write in your child's Reading Record each time they read, so we can see how they are getting on. It is really important that your child has their book bag in school every day.  We will try our best to hear your child read individually and also in a group in ‘Guided Reading.’  We hope to fit in a visit to the library this term too!

Our PE Lesson is on a Tuesday afternoon

We have a new hall slot! P.E will now be on a Tuesday afternoon each week. Please continue encouraging your child to practise getting dressed and undressed by themselves at home, wherever possible, to promote their independence, especially for shoes and coats. Please can you also ensure that each item of your child’s PE kit is clearly labelled to ensure your child’s belongings do not get mixed up!

Please can all children have a white polo shirt, black shorts and pumps or trainers.

Please remember that earrings are not to be worn for any type of PE including clubs and it is important to note that we are not able to cover them or take them out. Please check that they are not worn on any days that your child is taking part in PE or sport clubs. For non PE days, only stud earrings may be worn.

Don’t forget...Children who read regularly each week at home, complete their homework AND bring their PE kit will receive a ticket to go into the end of term raffle to win a gift voucher!
