Morning Routines

Each morning the children come into class, hang up coats/ PE kits and complete their ‘Morning Thinking Challenge’ between 8:40AM- 8:55AM. The children will find their name and attempt the Maths or Writing challenge for that day. You are invited to spend this time with your child to complete the activity. We will sit down for the register at 8.55am, so that we are ready for the day ahead.

Our Reception children have been given a Reading Record and sharing book to take home, but soon all of the children will be given a book to take home that they can read to you themselves! Please read with your child as often as possible. We really appreciate your support with your child’s home reading and for your comments in your child’s reading record. When children read regularly at home, it really makes a difference to their progress and confidence.

Please ensure your child brings their reading book and Reading Record into school each day. All children have a specific reading day throughout the week, where they will read 1:1 with their Teacher.

Please place your child's Reading Record and books in the ‘Reading Basket’ each Monday and Thursday morning, so that they can be changed.

We will send home the high frequency (tricky words) that children are expected to read by the end of Reception. Your child will be given a new set when they can read the previous set.

P.E will be on a Friday morning each week. Please encourage your child to practise getting dressed and undressed by themselves at home, wherever possible, to promote their independence, especially for shoes and coats. Please can you also ensure that each item of your child’s PE kit is clearly labelled to ensure your child’s belongings do not get mixed up!

Please can all children have a white polo shirt, black shorts and pumps or trainers.

Don’t forget … Children who read regularly each week at home AND bring their PE kit will receive a ticket to go into the end of term raffle to win a gift voucher!
