Pedal Power

Day 2

We had a huge job on our hands today to try and catch up with missed opportunities from yesterday so we knew we were going to have to work our legs to the bone!

The day got off to a good start when Miss Jones arrived in school at 7:15am and instantly set to work on the bike, securing a good 3km to get the tally going. Other members of staff quickly followed suit.

After 9:00am, the bike was taken up to the classroom, where the real graft began: every child in the class cycled 2km before breaktime, helping us to wrack up the kilometers fairly significantly.

After much hard work from all of our team and some amazing staff volunteers, we managed to secure over 200km today; this takes out total so far up to 299km! What an incredible achievement!

This now leaves us with 325 km to tackle over the next 2 days (an average of 162.5 km per day)- definitely achievable when looking at how well we smashed our target today!

Thanks for all of the donations, social media shares and general words of encouragement we have received so far. They really do mean the absolute world to us.

Happy pedalling!

Day 1

Well, today the amazing PureGym brought in our spin bike so we could get started with our challenge! Our aim as a class is to cycle the distance to and from London over the course of 4 days: this is going to be quite a challenge as the distance we need to cover on the bike is a whopping 624km! I'm sure we'll all have tired legs after that.

The bike arrived in school at around 12:30pm, and we were off! Our first cyclist (Reece Ashley) set the pace and easily secured 1km for his team. The rest of Year 6 swiftly followed suit!

Over the course of the afternoon, Year 6 and a number of staff volunteers have managed to cycle a very healthy 77km in total, with Miss E Jones proving she has incredible stamina by cycling 10km at the end of the day (our furthest yet!)

We still have a massive (but achievable) 547km to go to hit our target. We'll be resting our legs tonight and hope to get a minimum of 150km in the bag tomorrow to keep us on track!
